TONY ABBOTT    I’m very pleased to be here at Scarborough with my distinguished colleagues Julie Bishop, the Deputy Leader, Michael Keenan, the local member and the Shadow Minister for Justice and Customs. We’ve got various other members, we’ve got Luke Simpkins, we’ve got Ken Wyatt, the candidate for Hasluck, Donna Gordin, the candidate for Brand, Matt Taylor, the candidate for Fremantle. We’ve got Senator Alan Eggleston here and my distinguished friend Barry Court, the President of the West Australian division of the Liberal Party and we’re here to officially unveil this billboard, this mobile billboard which is a very good way of highlighting exactly how the Rudd Government has lost control of Australia’s borders. It seems that we are getting this increasing stream of unauthorised boats, this increasing stream of illegal arrivals.

JULIE BISHOP    The Rudd Government is still in denial about the failure of its border protection policies. Until the Rudd Government admits that the changes it made to the laws in August 2008 have caused the resurgence in the people smuggling trade the boats will continue to come.
