Locals urged to remember this ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day is an important day in our nation’s history and is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice, bravery and spirit of those who lost their lives, those who served and returned and those currently serving in conflict and peacekeeping missions.

Importantly, ANZAC Day 2010 will commemorate the 95th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.

Federal Member for Curtin Julie Bishop encourages Curtin residents to recognise the Australian soldiers who have given their lives in service of our country by attending a local ANZAC Day service this year.

“ANZAC Day is a time to pay tribute to our defence forces as we honour those who died or were injured protecting and serving our country,” Ms Bishop said.

“Throughout the Curtin electorate a number of local services will be conducted by the RSL Sub Branches and local councils and I encourage Curtin residents to attend in recognition of those men and women who have fought for our country, our freedoms and values.

“I particularly encourage younger generations to make the effort to mark this significant milestone in our history. ANZAC Day is a cherished time for reflection and it is hoped that the ANZAC tradition will continue,” she said.

ANZAC Day was observed for the first time in 1916.
