Anzac Day Schools’ Awards open for application

Schools across the Curtin electorate are encouraged to participate in this year’s Anzac Day Schools’ Awards competition in which they could win up to $2,000.

Federal Member for Curtin Julie Bishop said the Anzac Day Schools’ Awards aims to encourage a deeper understanding of the sacrifice of war for Australian students.

“By honouring the tradition of Anzac Day, and working with local veterans and ex-service members, schools are eligible to submit an entry for the awards,” she said

“Schools entering the competition are encouraged to think ‘outside the square’, while also being mindful of the significance of Anzac Day to all Australians.”

Ms Bishop said schools interested in entering the competition could find more information by contacting her office on 9388 0288.

“My office has copies of nomination forms and further information on the Awards, including entry guidelines.  I would be happy to speak to any classes entering the Awards and lend my support to their work,” she said.

A national prize of $2,000 will be awarded to the primary and secondary school whose entry displays a high level of accuracy, originality and involvement with local veterans.  A prize of $1,000 is available for the best entry in each State from a primary and secondary school. Entrees close Friday, 21 May 2010.

Ms Bishop said a wealth of information was available through the Australian War Memorial website (www.awm.gov.au) and by contacting local ex-service organisations.

“I encourage Curtin schools to consider entering this competition and to learn more about service in the Australian Defence Force,” she said.
